Scottish Youth Parliament

There are two representatives in the Scottish Youth Parliament who represented the views of LGBTI young people in Scotland and LGBT Youth Scotland.

In 2017 Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) were elected via an online hustings which had more than 100 views of Facebook Live. More than 400 young people voted.

Each term lasts for 2 years and the next election is due to take place in 2019.

MSYP Achievements

Our current members are half way through their term and some of their key achievements so far include:

  • Chairing and contributing to the Equalities Committee and Education Committee to ensure LGBTI young people's experiences are included.
  • Delivering opening speeches at the October 2017 sitting in the Scottish Parliament.
  • Speaking at the Cross-Party Group for Mental Health to raise awareness of the barriers for LGBT young people in accessing support.

MSYPs are currently working on a campaign on young people's rights called ‘Right Here, Right Now’ and are looking to develop specific content regarding LGBTI young people’s rights.
