The LGBT Youth Commission on Housing and Homelessness are looking for new members. You don’t need to have experience of homelessness to get involved; just the drive and motivation to work with others to influence real change that will improve services and make LGBT young homeless people’s lives better.
The youth commission meets roughly every 6 weeks, usually on a Saturday, and you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in different activities between meetings, such as attending conferences and events. We train you up, support you to develop your skills and confidence and provide you opportunity to represent the views of your community at a local and national level. We also (mostly) have lots of fun along the way.
One youth commissioner said of their experience;
“When I first joined the commission I didn’t think I’d make that much of a change… being able to stand in front of a room full of people share my own story was amazing, and it helped those professionals understand that even small changes in practice can make a huge difference for LGBT people.”
(Kaelin, Youth Commissioner since 2016)
If you are interested in applying for a space on the youth commission, please complete the online form. We will be holding an induction day for new youth commissioners on 8th December in our Edinburgh office; you will receive more info about this after registering an interest in joining the commission.
