Our Policy and Participation Officer, Sarah Anderson, recruits the help of Quentin to introduce our Youth Reference Group and what it means for the organisation:
"As Policy and Participation Officer at LGBT Youth Scotland, my job is to ensure that young people’s voices are heard on issues that affect them. I believe young people’s views should be sought out and valued by professionals and decision makers. Usually this work is external-facing but here at LGBTYS we like to walk the talk!
I’m therefore really excited to be working with our Head of Youth Work, Nicola, to set up our new Youth Reference Group, the first project of its kind at LGBTYS. The YRG is a group of young people who will work with our Board of Trustees to ensure that young people are involved in decisions that affect them at all levels of the organisation.
Like many projects, COVID-19 meant we couldn’t launch the project as we had originally planned, but we didn’t let that stop us! In the last weekend in November we ran a digital induction “residential” with our new YRG members where they learnt new skills, discussed how they want their group to run, and met with our CEO and members of our Board of Trustees. One of our YRG members, Quentin, made a video diary of the weekend..."
