What is the LGBT Charter for Education?

The LGBT Charter for Education is a straightforward programme that enables your school, college or university to proactively include LGBTQ+ people in every aspect of your work, protecting your staff and providing high quality service to your learners.

Being accredited with our LGBT Charter for Education enables you to send a positive message, with confidence, that your school, college, or university is a champion of LGBTQ+ inclusion where LGBTQ+ staff, parents and learners will be safe, supported and included. You can find out more by reading our brochure

How does it work?

The programme has been developed to support your institution to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that you’re not only meeting legislative needs but are as inclusive as you can be.

The LGBT Charter for Education has two intakes per year – January or August.  This will allow for improvement plans to reflect the 12-18 month journey of the Charter.

You will be guided through the programme with the help of your dedicated expert Charter Manager and a comprehensive LGBT Charter workbook.

Your accreditation

As of 1st October 2023, the LGBT Charter accreditation lasts three years upon successful completion of the programme.

The three-year cycle will create opportunities for schools, colleges and universities to renew and refresh their training, policies and practice at more regular intervals, to reflect evolving policy and staff turnover across this time period.

LGBT Awareness training

If you would like a shorter, one-off input then our LGBT Awareness Training may be a better fit.

The programme supports schools to achieve equity in education and reduce barriers to learning for LGBTQ+ young people benefitting both the school and wider community.

Sponsor your local school to complete the LGBT Charter for Education to make an impact on your community now and in the future.

From as little as £850 you could sponsor a school you already work with or we can match you up with schools that want to start their LGBT Charter journey, but need a hand.
