In late July, on the one day we had hot, sunny weather, some of the Borders Involved and Evolved young people headed down to Mauldsheugh Woods in Selkirk to find a big surprise…of picnic rugs, food, natural crafts, a whole lot of beauty all around, and several LGBTQ+ red squirrels scattered around the woods for them to find. They had a great adventure looking around the pond, the bird hide, amongst the trees, to find every one of our “Squirrel Club” mascots. What a perfect Pride Picnic.

Masks HES

The Forth Valley young people took part in two mask making sessions to create their own masqueraded masks, either through a historic lens or a futuristic one of their creation.

The first session taught the young people about the history of Stirling Castle and the eccentric ball’s that were held on the grounds by various royals throughout history. With a special mention to Mary Queen of Scott’s who used to attend masquerade balls presenting male.

Digital Team on tour! We celebrated Bute Pride after several years hiatus, and we were blessed with a lovely sunny celebration! It was wonderful to see the support on show on the day, if you’ve never been to a smaller Pride before – you’re missing out!

Drag Comic Strips

Our Stirling youth group took part in a drag themed comic strip workshop with their youth worker.
This session was split into the history of drag in Scotland and the wider world, coming off of international drag day.

The Stirling young people were them given three panels to either turn a drawing of themselves or a character of their choosing into a wonderful drag king/queen/in-between.
All this work took place in two hours, as you can see our Stirling lot are very artistically talented!

Comic Book Session

The Allsorts of Spectrum group had a visit from Comic Youth! During this session they crated these cool quick comics where they had a limited amount of time to draw in their square and then had to pass it on to the person next to them to do the next square! There were lots of twists and turns to the stories! Here’s some of the Comics created by the group.

Pride month is over, but the joy from Edinburgh Pride is lingering with me. The past few months have been really hard – but being in the march with thousands of people supporting us, flanked on the pavements with so many more excited to see us? That’s healing, and gives me hope.
