Why do you want to make Scotland the best place for LGBTQ+ young people to flourish and thrive?
Honestly, because every single young person in Scotland deserves this. Scotland is one of the most beautiful places in the world, with some of the best people, but I know this is not the experience of everyone – and I desperately want this to change. I look back on coming out (as bi) to myself and to most people as a genuinely quite joyful experience, and I want to live in a country where every single young person gets to feel joyful about who they are.
What is your experience?
I’m an experienced head of audit, with a background in audit, risk management, safeguarding, and administrative investigations. I have a degree in History and Politics and a Masters in International Conflict and Cooperation from the University of Stirling. I’ve lived and worked internationally, as well as in Scotland, and I have been a trustee on charity boards for several years. I’m passionate about inclusion and have led and contributed to inclusion initiatives in all my workplaces.
What do you do for fun?
I love to travel, both in Scotland and further afield, and one of my favourite parts of travelling is trying new food. I adore baking and trying new recipes (chocolate orange brownies are my speciality). I have grown to love strength training at the gym (which has shocked everyone including me) and I have been an avid reader since I was young, having never learned that it’s unwise to stay up to 2am because you ‘can’t put your book down’ if you have adulting to do the next day.
What mattered most to you when you were a young person?
Probably fun and friendships. I was always super lucky to have a really solid friendship group and the time I got to spend with my friends just being young and silly was really special to me.
